SOL tests measure the success of students in meeting the Board of Education's expectations for learning and achievement. All items on SOL tests are reviewed by Virginia classroom teachers for accuracy and fairness, and teachers also assist the Virginia Board of Education in setting proficiency standards for the tests.

To graduate with a Standard Diploma, a student must earn at least 22 standard units of credit by passing required courses and electives, and earn at least six verified credits by passing end-of-course SOL tests or other assessments approved by the Board of Education.

Virginia law does not provide for students to 'opt out' of the SOL tests. But it does allow parents to refuse participation in SOL testing for their children.

Scaled scores are reported on a scale of 625-880. A student who receives a scaled score of 740 or above is considered proficient.

However, any student who fails to achieve a passing score on all Standard of Learning assessments for the relevant grade level in grades 3 through 8 shall be required to attend a remediation program or to participate in another form of remediation.

The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests are a series of assessments that are administered to students in Virginia public schools in grades 3 through 12. These tests are designed to measure a student's proficiency in various subjects, including English, math, science, and history.

The Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) is designed to evaluate the performance of students with significant cognitive disabilities in grades 3-8 and high school.

ing to the Code of Virginia, all students in Virginia are expected to take the Standards of Learning (SOL) state assessments. Virginia regulations do not include what is sometimes referred to as an "opt-out policy" for state assessments. However, parents may refuse testing his/her children.
