The National Electronics Manufacturers Association (NEMA) defines EVSEs as: “[Devices that] provide electric power to the vehicle and use that to recharge the vehicle's batteries.

To be eligible for EVITP, a participant must be a state licensed or certified electrician. If the participant works in a state that does not license or certify electricians, the participant must provide documentation of a minimum of 8,000 hours of hands-on electrical construction experience.

EVSE acts as an intermediary between the power supply (typically the electrical grid) and the electric car, ensuring the safe and controlled transfer of electricity. For the most part, electric vehicle charging involves connecting a cable to a charging station much like how you would charge your smartphone.

EVSE typically consists of three main components: the electric meter, the charging station, and the cable connecting the two.

Electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) supplies electricity to an electric vehicle (EV). Commonly called charging stations or charging docks, they provide electric power to the vehicle and use that to recharge the vehicle's batteries.

After completion of the EVITP training, you will receive a welcome email from our third party testing company. The email provides instructions to set up your profile, test your computer with the platform and schedule your exam. What is a passing score? 75% is the minimum passing grade.

While electric vehicle supply equipment is the industry's technical term, common — and very acceptable — names used for EVSE include EV chargers, charging stations, charge points, or charging docks.

The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) provides training and certification for electricians installing electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE).
