Real Property Tax Law, section 467, gives local governments and public school districts the option of granting a reduction in the amount of property taxes paid by qualifying senior citizens. To qualify, seniors must be 65 years of age or older, meet certain income limitations, and other requirements.

Property owners 65 years of age or older by December 31, 2023, who have owned their primary residence for at least twelve consecutive months as of May 1, 2023, MAY be eligible for this exemption.

To be eligible for a homeowner tax rebate credit in 2022, you must have: qualified for a 2022 STAR credit or exemption, had income that was less than or equal to $250,000 for the 2020 income tax year, and. a school tax liability for the 2022-2023 school year that is more than your 2022 STAR benefit.

Local governments and school districts in New York State can opt to grant a reduction on the amount of property taxes paid by qualifying senior citizens. This is accomplished by reducing the taxable assessment of the senior's home by as much as 50%.

Exemption from New York State and New York City withholding You must be under age 18, or over age 65, or a full-time student under age 25 and. You did not have a New York income tax liability for the previous year; and. You do not expect to have a New York income tax liability for this year.

The Senior Citizen Homeowners' Exemption (SCHE) provides a reduction of 5 to 50% on New York City's real property tax to seniors age 65 and older. To be eligible for SCHE, you must be 65 or older, earn no more than $58,399 for the last calendar year, and the property must be your primary residence.

Exemption. The Disability/Limited Income Property Tax Exemption provides a property tax reduction of up to 50% of school, county, and town taxes for residential property owners who have a documented physical or mental impairment that substantially limits their ability to engage in one or more major life activities.
