Filing an RFC form involves a few simple steps: Obtain the RFC form from the SSA or download it from their website. The claims examiner handling your application will review your medical records and your daily activities before filling out a residual functional capacity form. The RFC form will contain a list of work activities that you can perform as well as restrictions on what you can't do because of your condition.

Residual Functional Capacity is an evaluation of your remaining ability to do things (work) after taking into account all of the limitations your severe medical conditions cause you. Think of it as “How much can you do & for how long?”.

Instead of waiting for the DDS examiner to fill out your RFC, you can have your doctor fill out a form listing your exact physical and mental limitations and how they affect your ability to work. You can request the RFC form from your local Social Security office or you can download it directly from the Social Security website. Once you have obtained the form, take it with you to your doctor's office and have them complete the form for you.
