Yoga is mentioned in sacred Hindu texts going back as far as 5000 years. Tai Chi is believed to have originated between 700 and 1500 years ago.

The tRNA adaptation index (tAI) is a widely used measure of the efficiency by which a coding sequence is recognized by the intra-cellular tRNA pool. This index includes among others weights that represent wobble interactions between codons and tRNA molecules.

The CAI is a measure of the synonymous codon usage bias for a DNA or RNA sequence and quantifies codon usage similarities between a gene and a reference set. The index ranges from 0 to 1, being 1 if a gene always uses the most frequently used synonymous codons in the reference set.

In the early 20th century the health benefits of tai chi became well known and it took on a new role as a preventative medicine or wellness exercise. In 1956 the Chinese government sponsored the Chinese Sports Committee, which commissioned several tai chi masters to create a short form, to keep their citizens healthy.

Around the 16th century, the Chen family of the Chen Village in the Henan province of China were practising their own unique form of martial arts which became the Chen family style of tai chi. Chen is the oldest form of the five primary tai chi styles.

The CAI for a species is a quantification of the frequency of usage of favored codons in highly expressed genes. CAI values range between 0 and 1. The higher the CAI value of a gene for a specific target species, the greater the chances are for it to be expressed optimally in that species.

A simple, effective measure of synonymous codon usage bias, the Codon Adaptation Index, is detailed. The index uses a reference set of highly expressed genes from a species to assess the relative merits of each codon, and a score for a gene is calculated from the frequency of use of all codons in that gene.
