PSLF borrowers who've made at least 120 payments after the recount is applied will see their remaining balance forgiven, while other borrowers will move closer toward the forgiveness finish line. If you want to apply for PSLF under these relaxed payment count rules, you'll need to do so by the end of 2023.

You can use the PSLF Help Tool to assist you in completing and submitting the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) form electronically with both your and your employer's signatures. You can also download the form, manually sign it and have your employer sign it, and submit it by mail or fax (see below).

Can I certify my own qualifying employment? Yes, you may certify your own employment if you are the only employee of the organization who can do so.

You can use the PSLF Help Tool for manually submitting the PSLF form to your employer or for requesting your employer's electronic signature. If you choose the manual option: Once you enter your information, you'll be able to print the partially completed form for you and your employer to sign.

If you have loans that have been in repayment for more than 20 or 25 years, those loans may immediately qualify for forgiveness. Borrowers who have reached 20 or 25 years (240 or 300 months) worth of payments for IDR forgiveness may see their loans forgiven in Spring 2023.

Once your employer certifies and signs your form, it will be electronically submitted to the PSLF servicer for processing. You may also submit a PSLF form by downloading the PDF after going through the PSLF Help Tool. While in tool, choose manual signature and on the next page select the View in My Activity button.
