The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) is dedicated to advancing the health of all dogs and their owners by funding scientific research and supporting the dissemination of health information to prevent, treat and cure canine disease.

The AKC At A Glance: We are the world's largest and oldest not-for-profit all-breed registry, with more than 190 recognized breeds and counting. We have more than 5,000 licensed and member clubs and affiliated organizations. We receive more than 3 million entries to 22,000+ sports and events each year.

In 2022, CHF and its donors invested $3.4 million in 54 canine health research and educational grants. These funds support studies exploring drug resistant epilepsy, chronic kidney disease, new technologies to diagnose and treat cancer, spread of vector-borne diseases, and more.

The American Kennel Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to upholding the integrity of its Registry, promoting the sport of purebred dogs and breeding for type and function.

How Is the ACA Different From the AKC? The AKC has more stringent standards for breeders and for breeds that it accepts for registration. It has a better reputation than ACA and is the oldest registry in the United States. With the AKC, you cannot register a dog that is not the offspring of AKC-registered dogs.

The CGC test is a pre-requisite to taking the CGCA test. The CGCA takes the basics from the CGC and applies them to more complex scenarios. The CGCA test is administered in a busy area with other dogs and many distractions.
