Enacted by the legislature in 1973, the Oregon Safe Employment Act is the heart for workplace safety and health in Oregon. The act ensures safe and healthful working conditions for all working Oregonians and authorizes Oregon OSHA to enforce the state's workplace safety and health rules.

Your employer must keep your workplace free of known health and safety hazards. You have the right to speak up about hazards without fear of retaliation. You also have the right to: Receive workplace safety and health training in a language you understand.

You have the right to a safe workplace. The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act) was passed to prevent workers from being killed or otherwise harmed at work. The law requires employers to provide their employees with working conditions that are free of known dangers.

The term "occupational safety and health standard" means a standard which requires conditions, or the adoption or use of one or more practices, means, methods, operations, or processes, reasonably necessary or appropriate to provide safe or healthful employment and places of employment. (9)
