This is a great retirement town, but can get boring if you are younger than 35. Like the beaches, nature, and atmosphere. There are many parks in town and they do a great job at keeping nature unspoiled. On the surface, the Alpena area is beautiful, rich in nature with many lakes, rivers, trails, etc.

A state-of-the-art regional medical center, community college, strong business climate, and community oriented infrastructure make Alpena an ideal location for business, vacation, and residency. Today Alpena is known as The Sanctuary of the Great Lakes.
