Students who do not complete IGETC before transferring will be required to satisfy the lower-division general education/breadth requirements of the UC college or school they attend.

The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) is a series of courses that California community college students can complete to satisfy most freshman/sophomore-level general education requirements before transferring to UC.

The IGETC requires completion of a varying amount of courses with a C (or a 2.0 out of a 4.0 scale) grade or better in each class. Students can choose to take classes across any California Community College campuses.

To request a certification, submit an official transcript request to the Student Records Office and indicate that you need certification with the transcript. Mark the GE Breadth or IGETC certification box on the transcript request form. IGETC certification can only be mailed directly to the transfer school.

IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) and CSU General Education certification verifies that a student has completed all lower division general education requirements for the UC or CSU. The IGETC can be used for UC and CSU. The CSU Certification is for CSU only.
