​ Receive Permit NOTE: Owner-Builders are required by Florida Statute to personally appear at the Lee County Public Works Building, 1500 Monroe St., Fort Myers, FL 33901 to sign for the building permit regardless of how it was submitted. Permits and the approved plans will be issued in person at that time.

If you are doing the work yourself and not hiring a contractor, the State of Florida requires you to submit an Owner/Builder Declaration form with your building permit application. You must sign this form must in person, at our Permitting office.

Once a permit is issued, it remains valid as long as work begins within 180 days from the date issued and continues in a substantial manner until completion of the job (per FBC 105.3. 2.1).
