Reentry Permit Produced USCIS may take approximately 6-12 months to approve and issue the reentry permit. If you have a valid passport and can travel internationally, then you can depart the U.S. after processing the biometrics.

To apply for an emergency travel document, you must file Form I-131, Application for a Travel Document, complete with supporting documentation, photos and applicable fees. See the application for specific filing instructions.

Note: Being granted emergency advance parole is at the discretion of the USCIS officer, and is typically granted only in cases of personal, family, and business-related emergencies. Evidence of a travel itinerary (i.e., plane ticket) scheduled to commence within the next 48 hours.

Processing time normally takes less than 90 days. Once received, it is valid for multiple trips abroad for a two-year period. Upon return it is best to present this travel document (advanced parole), passport and green card or other visa documents for inspection.

Planning Your Trip. The travel document usually arrives within 150 days (sometimes longer) after submitting your application. You can't leave the country until you have your approved travel document in hand, so you should expect to spend the 3–5 months after submitting your green card application in the United States.

I-131 Case Status The USCIS online case status tool allows you to check the progress of your I-131 USCIS case. Here are the steps to check your case status: Go to the USCIS online case status tool. Enter your 13-character case number, which can be found on your application receipt notice.

This document, known as “advance parole,” will allow you to re-enter the U.S. as long as it's still valid at the time of re-entry. IMPORTANT: You cannot travel outside the U.S. until your travel permit has been approved.
