Get Oh Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Apvf09 2020-2025

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD), a political subdivision of the State of Ohio, was responsible for the development of the reservoirs and dams. Today the MWCD is dedicated to providing the benefits of flood reduction, water conservation and recreational opportunities in the Muskingum River Watershed.

The Conservancy District has developed parks and marinas on its properties to help provide access to these lands and lakes. You will find a broad range of outdoor activities offered in the Conservancy District including camping, hiking, swimming, picnicking, fishing and hunting.

Ohio resident landowners, spouses, and their children are not required to have a hunting license, fur taker permit, either-sex deer permit, antlerless deer permit, spring or fall turkey permit, or Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp when hunting or trapping on land they own.

May I hunt on my own property? Yes, but only for white-tail deer and you must meet the land requirements of a minimum of five (5) acres. Although you or your family members do not need an Ohio hunting license or Ohio deer permit when hunting on your property, you will still need a Hudson hunting permit.

Each of the 14 MWCD lakes drain to the Muskingum River, which was the namesake for the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. The 10 permanent lakes are Atwood, Beach City, Charles Mill, Clendening, Leesville, Piedmont, Pleasant Hill, Seneca, Tappan, and Wills Creek.

MWCD has remained responsible for the operation and maintenance of the reservoir areas under its ownership and control. The USACE, with the cooperation of the MWCD, has operated the dams in ance with its Comprehensive Ohio River Flood Control Plan and its Water Control Manuals.
