Get Arizona State University Satisfactory Academic Progress Review 2014-2025

VCU Financial Aid can inform students that they are not making satisfactory academic progress (SAP). This is not something to necessarily be alarmed about, but it is something to be addressed quickly to prevent potential problems with PHD student support and financial aid to all students.

Students must maintain an ASU cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher at the end of each fall or spring semester to remain in Academic Good Standing. Changes to your academic status are reflected on your MyASU page and will appear as Academic Warning, Academic Probation, Continuing Probation or Disqualification.

Most schools will notify you about your appeal within 30 days. However, there is no industry standard on how often SAP appeals are approved. Ultimately, it's up to your school to approve or deny your appeal based on your specific circumstances.

SAP Completion Ratio is also known as Pace Courses in which a grade of A, B, C, D, or P are received are counted as completed. If your Completion Ratio falls below 67 percent, then you are not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

If a student attempts more than 150% of the credits required for their degree then they will fail SAP and become ineligible for any further federal financial aid. Appeals for exceeding the 150% maximum time frame are only granted in very extenuating cases. Example: 120 credit Bachelors' degree x 150% = 180 credits.

The US Department of Education requires students to complete at least 67 percent of all courses attempted for all colleges attempted to maintain eligibility for federal financial aid. PACE is calculated by dividing the earned credits by the attempted credits.

What is the maximum timeframe? The federal government defines the maximum timeframe as 150% of your program's published length, as measured in credit hours. For example, a typical undergraduate degree requires 120 credits which would result in a maximum timeframe of 180 credit hours (120 x 150%).
