Welcome to the International Schools Mathematics Teacher Foundation.

Possible topics include but are not limited to: counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables.

The best way to find math contests to participate in is to check in with your school: Most national competitions are either proctored directly by schools or require a teacher to register a team. Ask your school to find out what math competitions they'll be participating in during the school year.

The AMC 8 is for students in the sixth through eighth grade, although accelerated fourth and fifth graders can also take part. The AMC 8 is 25 questions in length and is multiple choice with no penalty for guessing. The contest takes only 40 minutes.

The AMC 8 test is a 25-problem exam that students need to solve in 40 mins. It is a fast-paced multiple-choice test where problems increase in difficulty as the test progresses. Each question is awarded one point, with a total score of 25.

Perfect Scores recognizes students with a perfect score of 25. School Honor Roll is awarded to schools with a team score (AMC 8, top 3 students scores) of 66 or greater. School Merit Roll is awarded to schools with a team score (AMC 8, top 3 students scores) between 50 and 65, inclusive.

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 each have 25 questions. You have 75 minutes for the entire exam. Each correct answer is worth 6 points (for a maximum score of 150) and each unanswered question is worth 1.5 points. There is no deduction for wrong answers.

It is administered by the Mathematical Association of America. The AMC 8 is the hardest of the three math competitions on this list. Many consider Math Olympiad and Mathcounts to be good preparation for the AMC 8.
