Generally, college-level courses completed at regionally-accredited institutions will transfer, provided the course is similar in level, scope, content and expected learning outcomes to courses offered at UMD and a grade of "C-" or higher is earned.

The University of Maryland welcomes 3,000 to 4,000 transfer applicants to its revered College Park campus every year. For a highly-ranked university with numerous standout academic programs, this is an incredibly friendly transfer admissions environment.

A: The UMD does not restrict the number of transfer courses that are accepted. However, the number of credits that are applicable toward degree requirements is limited based on the source of the transfer credits. A maximum of 60 credits from 2-year institutions can be applied to degree requirements at UMD.

Transfer credits to UMD Current students can apply to the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program (MTAP) for additional savings on UMD tuition. Up to 70 AACC credits can be transferred and used for your bachelor's degree, including fulfilling most general education requirements or prerequisites.

To be considered a transfer applicant, you must have graduated high school or have completion of high school equivalency. You must complete at least 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours at a regionally accredited college or university. (AP/IB credits or placement tests cannot be used toward this requirement.)

The total of graduate and undergraduate credits attempted in any semester may not be more than 18. The graduate credits so earned will not count toward any requirements for the bachelor's degree. An undergraduate student may take a maximum of nine graduate credits when taken as graduate credits only.
