The police will keep a copy of this trespass order on file and can refer to it if needed. This means that if you call the police to complain about a person trespassing, they will have a record of the trespass notice.

You may write your own letter or use the following Trespass Notice Form. Make a copy of the letter/notice for your records. Use only one form per person. • Mail a copy of the letter certified/return receipt requested to the offending party. Save your receipt (proof of mailing).

You or an attending Police officer can give the trespassed person the notice in person, or you can post the notice to their address. The Trespass Act 1980 does not allow you to deliver a trespass notice by email or other electronic form.

If you know the identity of the offender and/or their current address, you can hand deliver a written trespass notice directly to the person or send it by registered mail. You should save a duplicate for your records and send a copy to the police service for data entry.
