Michigan currently has 65 sites listed on Superfund's National Priorities List (NPL). An additional 20 sites were previously on the list and have been deleted because all necessary response actions have been completed. There were no additions or deletions in fiscal year (FY) 2020.

Copley Square Plaza. The Copley Square Plaza Superfund site is in Copley Township, Ohio. The site includes the commercial properties at 2777 and 2799 Copley Road and an 86-acre area of groundwater contamination under commercial and residential properties.

New Jersey is home to the most hazardous waste sites in the United States, with 115 as of October 2022. This was followed by California and Pennsylvania, which had 96 and 90 sites, respectively.

The states with the most Superfund sites were New Jersey (113 sites), California (97 sites) and Pennsylvania (95 sites). The states with the fewest Superfund sites were North Dakota (no sites), Nevada (one site) and South Dakota (two sites).

As of August 17, 2022, there were 1,329 Superfund sites on the National Priorities List in the United States. Forty-three additional sites have been proposed for entry on the list, and 452 sites have been cleaned up and removed from the list. New Jersey, California, and Pennsylvania have the most sites.
