The State Bar of Michigan Modest Means Program connects moderate-income people with attorneys who offer reduced-cost legal assistance. The Modest Means Program is not a free program. Qualifying applicants must pay for any services received.

(Oregon State Archives Photo) Established in 1935, the Oregon State Bar is a public corporation and instrumentality of the Oregon Judicial Department that serves the public by regulating lawyers and improving access to justice and the delivery of legal services.

Oregon lawyers created the Modest Means Program to help moderate-income Oregonians find affordable legal assistance. Eligibility for the program is based upon type of legal matter, applicant income and assets, and availability of participating lawyers.

The Oregon State Bar's Military Assistance Panel provides legal assistance on the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and a number of areas of law, including family law, estate planning, bankruptcy, real estate, landlord/tenant, employment law and more.

The Oregon Supreme Court unanimously supported the concept of two alternatives in addition to the Uniform Bar Exam — currently, the sole pathway to attorney licensure for people in the state. Those alternatives are: An experiential learning pathway for students, and a postgraduate supervised practice pathway.

Mandatory CLE Requirements for Comity Admission All applicants for Comity Admission must take 15 credit hours of continuing legal education as approved by the Board.

The Award is granted to the candidate whom the Executive Committee believes to best personify the Oregon State Bar's Statement of Professionalism, and best serves as a role model for other lawyers.

Income Eligibility In general, we are able to help persons with a total household income at or below 125% of the Federal poverty level. In some eligibility circumstances, we are able to help persons with a total household income up to 200% of the Federal poverty level if they have other qualifying expenses.
