Restoring an Archived Case The Case Restore page appears indicating that the request has been successfully processed. The next business day, use Case Query to request the case, which is now available for viewing. The case remains available until the monthly archive process is run.

The lender must notify the FHA Homeownership Center with jurisdiction in that area. Lenders cannot cancel a case number for a loan that has already closed or for a loan the finance company does not own or hold. Lenders also cannot cancel FHA case numbers via the online system known as FHA Connection.

FHA Case Number: Unique 10-digit number assigned to a loan through Case Number Assignment on the FHA Connection. A loan assigned a number is called a case.

At the request of a borrower, the case number is to be assigned to the new lender using the Case Transfer function in FHA Connection. The transferring lender is not entitled to a fee for the transfer of a streamline refinance case number, regardless of the stage of processing the loan is in.

Step one: transfer the FHA case number, which is explained later in this article. Step two: ask for a copy of the appraisal from the current lender. FHA guidelines state that the mortgagee must transfer the appraisal to the second mortgagee within five business days.

In order to request a case number cancellation, contact the FHA Homeownership Center with jurisdiction over the area to initiate the process. This can be done by e-mail and must include the lender name, email address, telephone and contact information; and case number.

If a case number has been canceled, and FHA insurance will be sought, the lender must fax a request to the appropriate HOC, requesting that the case number be reinstated to an active status.
