NYC School Tax Credit: This credit is available to New York City residents who are not dependents claimed on another taxpayer's federal income tax return, or residents who live in New York City for part of the year. If you're married, file jointly, and earn $250,000 or less, you can get a refundable credit of $125.

Individuals must file on Form NYC-202 or NYC-202S. Single-member LLCs must file on Form NYC-202. Partnerships (including any incorporated entity other than a single-member LLC treated as a partnership for federal income tax purposes) or other unincorporated organiza- tions must file Form NYC-204 or Form 204EZ.

Who is Exempt from this Tax? Performing services as an employee is not subject to UBT. A person or entity, other than a dealer, who is only engaged in the purchase, holding, and sale of property for their own personal account (e.g. a person who owns and rents a two-family house); and.

You are entitled to this nonrefundable credit if you were: a full-year or part-year New York City resident and. the owner of a business, a beneficiary of an estate or trust, or a partner in a partnership whose business, estate or trust, or partnership is subject to the New York City unincorporated business tax (UBT).

This is your UBT paid credit carryforward. This amount is eligible to be carried forward for up to seven years. You may not take a credit in a taxable year in which you are taxable on the capital base or pay the minimum tax.

If you are a resident of New York City or a part-year resident with taxable city income of $42,000 or less, the amount of the credit is 100% of UBT imposed. This credit does gradually decrease from 100% to 23% for taxpayers whose taxable city income is more than $42,000 but less than $142,000.
