Per 2 CFR 200.92, “Subaward means an award provided by a pass-through entity to a subrecipient for the subrecipient to carry out part of a Federal award received by the pass-through entity.

It provides a checklist of documents and certifications required by sponsors and it must be endorsed by the authorized institutional representative prior to proposal submission.

A subaward is a contract or legal agreement between an organization receiving an award from a sponsor, the award recipient, and another organization that will perform research or other substantive work for the award recipient. A subaward is not an agreement for the procurement or purchase of routine goods or services.

Subaward - The legal instrument issued to a lower-tier collaborator under a Federal Financial Assistance Award. The recipient of a subaward is called a Subrecipient. Subcontract - The legal instrument issued to a third party under a Federal Contract to perform a portion of the programmatic effort.

In such cases, one entity – the one who submitted the grant application – will serve as a pass-through to the partnering entities, which are called subrecipients. The government funding they receive to carry out their responsibilities is called the subaward.

The Subaward Management Team provides support to faculty and administrators for the negotiation, execution and monitoring of all outgoing subawards (both federal and non-federal) issued under grants and contracts managed by the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP).

About half (45-55 percent) of all out-of-state applicants are admitted. For all who receive admission, there are more than 400 student clubs and organizations on the school's lush campus in downtown Newark.

A subaward is an agreement with a third-party organization to perform a portion of a research project or program. The terms of the relationship (sub-grant/subcontract) are influenced by the prime agreement, and all subawards must be monitored to ensure that the subrecipient complies with these terms.
