The ZDHC MRSL conformance Levels range from 0 to 3 as seen in Figure 1. Higher conformance levels are expected to reflect a higher confidence that a chemical product meets the ZDHC MRSL conformance levels, and therefore a lower probability of any ZDHC MRSL substances being present in the certified chemical product.

The ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (ZDHC MRSL) is a list of chemical substances banned from intentional use in the processing of textile materials, leather, rubber, foam, adhesives and trims used in textiles, apparel, and footwear industry.

MRSL stands for Manufacturing Restricted Substance List, and provides manufacturers, suppliers, brands and retailers with acceptable limits of restricted substances in chemical formulations, which are used in the material and product manufacturing processes.

What are MRSLs and RSLs? MRSL (Manufacturing Restricted Substances List) and RSL (Restricted Substances List for Finished Products) are lists created to indicate substances considered harmful or hazardous, of which should ultimately not be found on any apparel item.

The ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines is a living document which sets a single, globally unified expectation across the textile, leather and footwear industry supply chain for industrial wastewater and sludge. They define the guidelines for wastewater discharge, sludge quality and disposal pathways.

The ZDHC MRSL conformance Levels are 1, 2, and 3. The higher the level number, the more rigorously the chemical formulation and chemical supplier practice have been reviewed.
