Identifying Fry Word Lists by Grade Level Kindergarten sight words: first 50 words. 1st grade sight words: first 100 Fry words. 2nd grade sight words: second 100 Fry words. 3rd grade sight words: third 100 Fry words.

Your child will need to know these 400 sight words by the end of second grade.

The Fry words are listed by the frequency with which they occur and are often broken down into groups of 100. So the first 100 Fry words are the 100 most frequently occurring words in the English language, and so on.

The Dolch list is made up of 220 words and contains no nouns unless they can be used as another part of speech. (Dolch created a separate list of 95 nouns.) The Fry list contains 1,000 words and includes all parts of speech.

It is recommended that: The first 100 fry words, considered the most frequently occurring in the English language, should be mastered in Grade 1. The fry second 100 sight words should be mastered in 2nd Grade. The third 100 words should be mastered in Grade 3.

Fry's Sight Word Assessment This assessment records a student's ability to read the Fry sight words. These words are broken down into 100 word sections for grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. This assessment is very straight forward. The teacher will test the student by having them read the sight words.

The Fry Sight Words list is a more modern list of words than the Dolch list, and was extended to capture the most common 1,000 words. Dr. Edward Fry developed this expanded list in the 1950s (and updated it in 1980), based on the most common words to appear in reading materials used in Grades 3-9.

What are some of the first grade Sight Words? Some of the first grade sight words are people, from, form, come, about, make, make, many, number, numerals, had, did, which, when, could, should, would, these, this, what, that, your, or, us, our, their, etc.
