A Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) is an official medical document giving an athlete permission to take a medication that is ordinarily prohibited for the treatment of a legitimate condition. It is only valid for a given period of time.

In some situations, an athlete may have an illness or condition that requires the use of medication listed on the UFC Prohibited List. USADA can grant a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) in these situations in compliance with the UFC TUE Policy.

All TUEs are granted for a limited period of time. At least 30 days before the expiry date, a new TUE application must be sent to the IFF together with up-to-date medical evidence. The validity of the TUE is dependent on the prohibited substance.

The athlete required emergency or urgent treatment of a medical condition. There was insufficient time, opportunity or other exceptional circumstances that prevented the athlete from submitting the TUE application, or having it evaluated, before getting tested.

APPLY FOR A THERAPEUTIC USE EXEMPTION (TUE) Step 1: Find your Condition. Step 2: Download the appropriate TUE application. Step 3: Complete the TUE application and collect medical documents. Step 4: Review your TUE application. Step 5: Submit COMPLETED application to USADA.

Therapeutic Use Exemption. The Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) process, outlined below, is a means by which an athlete can request approval to use a prescribed prohibited substance or method for the treatment of a legitimate medical condition.
