There is nothing wrong with the underarm serve normally, because it is within the rules of the game. However, virtually no one will use the serve as your serve is meant to be an upper hand for you.

Serve may be done overhand or underhand, with underhand being the easiest to learn. The ball must be visible to opponents before the serve. A legal serve may hit the net and continue over.

If the server steps on the line or into the court before they hit the ball, they lose the serve. If they threw the ball as part of their serve, they may let it drop and take another toss exactly one time per rotation. Catching the ball is Bad—you lose the serve.

Underhand serves are often much easier to receive and hit compared to other serve styles, and thus are rarely employed in high level volleyball competition. An underhand serve does not generate the same type of power as an overhand or jump serve, and are often not as accurate.

An overhand serve has more speed and power than an underhand serve but is often harder to control (or target where it lands). Players should practice and try to use it since the return for the opponents will be more challenging.
