How many days of school can you miss Jefferson Parish?

Students who accumulate eighteen (18) days of unexcused absences will receive a grade of “X” (no credit) for all full-year courses.

The number of non-exempt and excused absences is based on the number of school days offered. Schools are required to offer 177 days of school, which means a student can be absent ten days. If more school days are offered, then the number of absences also increases.

Attendance Policies and Procedures Therefore, students may not have class absences, (excused or unexcused) exceeding 4 days per quarter, 8 days per semester, or 16 days per year in order to receive credit for the particular course.

But how many is too many? Most school districts allow students to be absent for up to 10% of the school year, provided the absences are excused. The standard school year lasts for 180 days, so you can have up to 18 excused absences. Once you go over that number, you'll be labeled as a chronic absentee.
