The code of chivalry, as it stood by the Late Middle Ages, was a moral system which combined a warrior ethos, knightly piety, and courtly manners, all combining to establish a notion of honour and nobility.

The core values of chivalry are prowess, honor, and piety. These values represent a combination of martial, aristocratic and Christian elements ( Mesley p. 146).

A knight was supposed to show bravery, strength and skill in battle (this was called prowess), to respect women, to defend the weak and the poor, to be generous to others and loyal to his lord, his family and his friends.

The term chivalric refers to the code of conduct and values associated with medieval knights, characterized by ideals such as honour, loyalty, courage, and gallantry. It is often associated with the romanticized depiction of knights in literature, particularly in medieval romance and chivalric romance.

The main chivalric virtues were piety, honor, valor, courtesy, chastity, and loyalty. The knight's loyalty was due to the spiritual master, God; to the earthly master, the king or overlord; and to the mistress of the heart, his sworn love.

Courtly love, also called refined love, refers to a romantic relationship between two unmarried people in medieval times. These love relationships were not physical, but based on flirting, dancing, and the chivalrous efforts of knights and other noble young men to curry favor from ladies at court.

The knights education included horse riding, fencing, spear fighting, swimming, hunting, poem writing for the lady of the heart, chess, ceremonial of the court and music. The future battle elite received religion education as well. Aged 21 squires went through the ceremony of the knighting.

Romance is a genre, developing from the mid-14th century, which deals with love or heroic adventures both in prose or verse form. The plots are set in distant times and distant places, remote from everyday life. The supernatural element is present in many medieval romances.

What is the knight's code of chivalry? The knights' code of chivalry was an expected standard of behavior for knights in the middle ages. The knights were sworn to uphold their duty to God and the church; their duty to their liege lord; and to protect those less fortunate like women and orphans.

The code of chivalry and the idea of romantic love were similar in that they both involved a large amount of idealization and make-believe; they were both ideologies that didn't really exist in the actual world.
