- Identify and utilize the keypad functions: copy, ECG, rhythm, stop, enter, return, arrow pad, escape, function keys, power, and delete as needed.
- Input the necessary data into the ECG machine including last name, first name, patient ID (without the check digit), referring physician, and operator initials.
- Check for any loose lead messages and correct them before proceeding.
- Press the ECG rhythm key to initiate the tracing.
- If a second copy is requested, press the ‘Copy’ button.
- Press the ‘Rhythm’ button if a rhythm strip is needed.
- Turn off the ECG machine when not in use by pressing the power button.
- Plug in the power supply connection after use.
- Document the completion of the procedure in the patient flow sheet.
- Ensure the 12 lead ECG printout is provided to the RN or MD.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to change the ECG paper when necessary.
- Know when it is appropriate to ask for assistance.
- Identify which parameters must be reported urgently and to whom this information should be directed.
- At the end of the procedure, review the proficiency section and check the appropriate box with a comment if necessary.
- Finally, ensure both the instructor and the employee sign and date the form.
- Once all steps are completed, save changes, and consider downloading or printing the checklist for your records.
