Antifoam B Emulsion is a 10% emulsion of Antifoam A, a 100% active silicone defoamer, and non-ionic emulsifiers, useful for the control of foaming in microbial culture flasks or fermentations. Antifoam B Emulsion is a general use antifoam and should be considered a non-toxic additive to culture medium.

Antifoams are chemical agents which, as the name would suggest, are designed to control the formation of foam. They come in two types: silicone based and non-silicone based. A wasteful build-up of foam can pose a number of serious issues during industrial processes and operations.

Too much antifoam can cause the redeposit of the antifoam onto the panels by having it sucked-up through the pumps and sprayed through the nozzles.

Skin : May be harmful in contact with skin. Ingestion : Health injuries are not known or expected under normal use. Inhalation : Health injuries are not known or expected under normal use. Chronic Exposure : Health injuries are not known or expected under normal use.

Antifoams are typically inert chemicals. They consist of a liquid component (e.g., nonionic surfactant, mineral oil, and/or silicone) and a hydrophobic solid (e.g., wax, fatty acid/alcohol, and/or hydrophobic silica). They must be sufficiently incompatible such that they are insoluble with the medium.

Antifoam 204 is an organic, non‐silicone polypropylene‐based polyether dispersion while Antifoam C, SE‐15, and Y‐30 are silicon emulsions. Antifoam EX‐Cell is a simethicone emulsion.

Antifoam A Concentrate can be added directly to a fermentation medium, but it is not recommended to be pumped to a fermentor on an as-needed basis. Antifoam B Emulsion is an aqueous emulsion containing 10 % active silicone. It contains non-ionic emulsifiers different from those in Antifoam Emulsions C and Y-30.
