The right way to request a reference letter If you still have a class with the professor you need an academic reference letter from, make an appointment to ask them in person instead of over email. If you no longer have classes with the professor, include more background information in your email.

Through the online system you have two options: Fill out the online reference form. Upload an attachment. Attach a PDF or Word version of your letter of reference. Please put the reference on your letterhead and sign. Scan and upload as a PDF whenever possible.

You do not need to include written references in your application, just the contact information of your references so that our admissions team can contact them. UBC does not send a link to references. We will contact your references directly, after offers of admission have gone out.

You can edit some Reference information after your online application has been submitted by logging in to My Applications. Once logged in, choose "References" and follow the instructions to send a reminder to your Referee, edit a Referee email and resend email or replace a Referee.
