If you were wondering whether or not you're exempt, know that you must register and file for IFTA if you have: Any vehicle with two axles and a gross vehicle weight of over 11,797 kilograms or 26,000 pounds. A vehicle of any weight but with three or more axles. A vehicle that exceeds 11,797 kilograms or 26,000 pounds.

IFTA is an agreement among U.S. states and provinces in Canada that simplifies the reporting of fuel use taxes by interstate motor carriers who operate in two or more member states or provinces.

Is IFTA required? Yes, federal law requires that commercial truck companies abide by IFTA regulations.

For Assistance: Contact (406) 444-7664 or email mdtiftatax@mt.gov.

So, who needs an IFTA sticker? The state of Georgia is a member of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA). This means that truckers are required to obtain an IFTA Georgia license if Georgia is their base jurisdiction and they will travel interstate with a qualified motor vehicle.

Operating a qualified motor vehicle without a copy of the original IFTA license may subject a licensee to citations and fines, and the licensee may be required to purchase a fuel trip permit each time the vehicle enters a member jurisdiction.
