Does an open MRI produce the same results as traditional MRIs? Not always. Until recently, open MRIs could not accommodate the more powerful magnets used on conventional MRIs. As a result, the images they produced were less precise or lower quality.

While open systems have become more prevalent in recent years, DMG does not offer open MRI due to lower image quality produced.

We accept NHS patients through the NHS referral process. There are a number of NHS Trusts who routinely refer patients to us who need an Open MRI scan.

What is the High-Field Open MRI? The High-field Open MRI is a specific type of MRI scanner. It offers a more comfortable, open version of the traditional MRI scan. It may be a good alternative for patients who feel nervous about the exam because they have claustrophobia, are overweight, or have broad shoulders.

Wide Bore MRI is basically considered a combination of the two, though it is often referred to as an Open MRI. There is more space, similar to the Open MRI, but allows for the better quality imaging from a larger magnet and the shorter procedure duration as found in the Closed Bore MRI.

Open scanners usually have a magnetic field strength of 0.23 Tesla and offer much less detail for the radiologist to interpret. When using closed (High field) MRI machines. Scanners with high field strength, 1.5 to 3 Tesla provides images with much greater detail, higher resolution with great clarity.

What is an Open MRI? Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging exam that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to collect detailed information about the organs and tissues of the body. MRI does not use x-ray or radiation. Open MRI is used to accommodate claustrophobic, obese and pediatric patients.

closed MRI machine, you'll find a closed MRI system is more effective at diagnosing a larger range of problems because of the higher-quality images it produces due to its stronger magnetic field. But, an open MRI system accommodates you better, particularly if you are claustrophobic or have a larger body type.

Instead of an enclosed capsule, the open MRI uses a magnet top and bottom and is open on all four sides. These decrease the risk of claustrophobia and panic attacks exponentially and allows patients of all shapes and sizes to be able to make use of an MRI to accurately diagnose their problems.

Open MRIs are just like they sound. They are open, while still using Magnets to take images of the inside of your body. Instead of an enclosed capsule, the open MRI uses a magnet top and bottom and is open on all four sides.
