The BCAT consists of 21 items. Scores range from 0 to 50. Item-level scores are determined by correct responses. Produces a total score to assess global cognitive functioning, Contextual Memory Factor (CMF) , and Executive Control Functions Factor (ECFF).

The BCAT® Approach is a unique applied concept for assessing and working with people who have memory and other cognitive impairments. It is designed for any clinical and residential setting in which cognitive functioning and cognitive impairment is a central issue.

The BCAT is a multi-domain cognitive instrument that assesses orientation, verbal recall, visual recognition, visual recall, attention, abstraction, language, executive functions, and visuo-spatial processing in adult and older adult populations.
