Level 2 is an introductory level to prepare gymnasts for competition, and into the mindset of learning routines. Many athletes skip this level or graduate fairly quickly to the next level. USAG does not require a score requirement for this level.

As a Level 7 gymnast, which is the second of the Optional Gymnastics levels, and the first optional level required, a gymnast must have received a minimum of a 32.00 All-Around in either Level 5 or Level 6 as well as have reached her 7th birthday.

Within the JO program there are 10 different levels. Gymnasts need to meet a specific group of requirements before they're able to advance to the next level. These requirements are based upon four main events: floor routine, uneven bars, vault, and balance beam.

Level 2: This is the entry level pre-team level for USA Gymnastics competition program. Level 3: This is a pre-team and recreation team level. Level 4: This is the entry level for gymnastics competition with compulsory routines on all four events.

Athletes may not skip any level (exception… Level 6 may be skipped, see below). They must advance one level at a time by scoring the minimum mobility score at any USA Gymnastics sanctioned competition (Exception: Levels 1-3 do not have a mobility score).

Level 3: This is a pre-team and recreation team level. Level 4: This is the entry level for gymnastics competition with compulsory routines on all four events. Level 5: This is the beginning competition level with compulsory routines only. These routines are simplifies versions of the Level 6 routines.

Level 1 gymnasts must perform a beam routine with the following skills: jump to front support mount. arabesque to 30 degrees. needle kick. relevé lock stand. stretch jump. cartwheel to 3/4 handstand dismount.

In 2007, as a pre-teen, Biles launched her competitive career, entering competitions as a level 8 gymnast. A few years later, in 2011, she soared to new heights, notching 3rd Place in the all-around at the American Classic, and 1st Place in the vault and balance beam events (Mead, 2021).

Level 2 Floor Requirements cartwheel. handstand (must be held for 1 second) backward roll to push-up position. bridge back kick-over. split leap with 60° leg separation. 180° heel snap turn in passé split jump with 60° leg separation.
