No, Coast Guard Documented vessels do not have titles, but they hold Certificates of Documentation in their stead. Federal law prohibits Documented vessels from possessing State titles, as the Federal Documentation supersedes all State registration.

If you are checking the status of a pending Application for Coast Guard Vessel Documentation, you may proceed to the National Vessel Documentation Center Work Packet Search Page from the US Coast Guard Maritime Information Exchange (CGMIX) via this link.

https://unitedstatesvessel.us/abstract-of-title/ Additionally, any member of the public can request a Certified Copy of the Certificate of Documentation for any US Coast Guard Documented Vessel. This will provide the Managing Owner name and address, along with pertinent vessel endorsement information.

There is no fee for renewal of a vessel's documentation. A title search on a documented vessel may be initiated by requesting an Abstract of Title from the National Coast Guard Documentation Center. The bill of sale must be notarized for transactions involving a documented vessel transfer of ownership.

https://cgmix.uscg.mil/psix/psixsearch.aspx Simply enter the vessel name or Hull Identification Number (engraved or printed on the aft starboard corner of the vessel) and click “Search.” If the vessel has been USCG Documented, it will appear in the search results.

Once your vessel is USCG documented, all you need to transfer the ownership is to submit a copy of the Certification of Documentation which includes the owners' signature. Also, the copy of the certificate of documentation must be notarized. A bill of sale will be needed (see below).

If the original COD has been submitted to the USCG by the previous owner for the purpose of canceling their documentation, the U.S Coast Guard should issue the new owner a “Deletion Letter” which can be used in lieu of the original COD as proof of ownership.

Contact the USCG Vessel Documentation Center (http://.uscg.mil/hq/g-m/vdoc/nvdc.htm) for vessel title and lien information.
