The Disabled Veterans Property Tax Exclusion is for veterans who have been found permanently and totally disabled by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The exclusion applies to a residence owned and occupied by a qualified veteran. The first $45,000 of appraised value of the residence is excluded from taxation.

North Carolina Veteran Financial Benefits Property Tax: Any Veteran discharged honorably and have a 100% permanently and totally disability rating are eligible for up to a $45,000 deduction in the assessed value of their home. Any surviving spouse of a Veteran is also eligible if they are drawing DIC from the VA.

Veterans Property Tax Relief Complete Sections 1 and 2 of the NCDVA-9 Form. Take the form to your local veteran's service office for certification. Once certified, submit Form NCDVA-9 and Form AV-9 Application for Property Tax Relief to your local county tax office.

North Carolina Taxes on Military Disability Retirement Pay: Military Disability Retirement Pay received as a pension, annuity or similar allowance for personal injury or sickness resulting from active service in the U.S. Armed Forces should not be included in taxable income.

Military retirement is not taxable income in North Carolina. It is still taxable on your Federal return, but not on your state return. If you're a disabled veteran you may qualify for property tax relief.

The disabled veteran homestead exemption is the first $45,000 of your assessed real property value. Co-owners who are not spouses and who are individually eligible for the benefit will receive the total exemption of $90,000.
