The more extravagant the Binewski offspring's genetic divergences, the more their parents love them. The book is filled with near-incest—Olympia has her younger brother Fortunato use his telekinesis to extract Arturo's sperm and impregnate her with it.

Geek Love is the story of the Binewskis, a carny family whose mater- and paterfamilias set out-with the help of amphetamine, arsenic, and radioisotopes-to breed their own exhibit of human oddities. There's Arturo the Aquaboy, who has flippers for limbs and a megalomaniac ambition worthy of Genghis Khan . . .

7] Arturo is born with flippers instead of hands and feet; Elly and Iphy are Siamese twins; Chick, who is nearly abandoned because he appeared normal at birth, can move things with his mind; and Olympia, who narrates the story, is a bald albino hunchbacked dwarf.

Geek Love is a cruel joke turned into a sensitive novel, but a sensitive novel played for laughs. “…a few stumbles in a high-wire act such as Dunn's only further enthrall the customers. Like most great novels, this one keeps the reader marveling at the daring of the author.

Miranda is also Arty's daughter, sired when Chick uses his mental powers to impregnate Oly with Arty's sperm.
