This book revolves around a 10-year old boy, Michael. When Michael moves into a crumbling, old house with an ancient garage that he cannot resist going into, he encounters a mysterious creature named Skellig.

My Name Is Mina is a 2010 children's novel by David Almond. It is a prequel to Skellig and is about Mina, a homeschooled girl who lives across the road from the house that Michael's family moves into at the beginning of Skellig. The novel takes the form of a stream of consciousness journal.

The friendship between Michael and Mina was important because Michael found a friend in Mina and someone that he could fully rely on and to not judge him. Michael and Skellig's friendship was important to the novel because if Michael had not found Skellig in the garage Michael sisters would have probably died.

Once he is relocated, the man finally tells them that his name is Skellig. They discover he has wings, and they see him eating food gathered for him by the owls. When they ask what he is, he tells them he's something like them, something like a beast, something like a bird and something like an angel.

If you like birds you will love this book because there is a lot of information about birds. Mina is very interested in birds and knows a lot about them. She helps Michael by talking to him about his baby sister who is very ill and reassures him that she will be ok.

skellig is described by Michael's mother as wearing an 'ancient dusty suit'. We also gained from Michael's descriptions that Skellig's suit was black. In on of michael's descriptions of skellig it says that he has 'long legs'.

Mina is home-schooled and enjoys nature, birds, drawing and the poems of William Blake. Often drawing or sculpting at home, she invites Michael to join in. She takes care of some baby birds who live in her garden and teaches Michael to hear their tiny sounds. Michael decides to introduce her to the strange creature.
