Over 40 states allow for some kind of “net metering.” Translation: households that generate electricity through residential solar projects can receive checks from the power companies for excess energy sent to the grid.

If you are a non-domestic installation ie school, farm, sporting organisation, company, and have more than 6.1KWe – up to 50 KWe, the SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) has mandated a Clean Export Premium Tariff 2022 set at 13.5c per kwh for 2022. This is a guaranteed fee for 15 years, set annually.

If you have a microgenerator installed, such as solar PV, ESB Networks will submit an NC6 form on your behalf. This form will inform us at Electric Ireland that you have a registered microgeneration device and ESB Networks will a smart meter for you if you do not already have one.

Rate: €0.135/kWh in 2023 This is capped at 80% of generation capacity, to encourage self-consumption. This means if you have a farm with a 10kWp solar array installed, then you will get paid for the amount you are exporting back to the grid up to a maximum of 8kW at any particular time.

To be eligible for payments, ESB Networks first need to be notified of your microgeneration so they can start recording your export to the grid. This is done by completing an NC6 form. This would have been completed with your technician at the time of installation.

If you generate renewable electricity in your home or business, you can feed back into the grid any electricity that you don't use. Under the Smart Export Guarantee ( SEG ) you will be paid for every unit of electricity that you feed back.

Clean Export Guarantee (CEG) Tariff - Get paid for surplus energy. From the 15th of February 2022 onwards, you will get paid for any surplus energy you generate and export back to the grid from your home solar PV system.

Filling in NC6 Form for ESB Networks The following details are required on the NC6 Form boxes; 1) Your full name and address 2) Site location of and MPRN (meter point reference number) from your electricity bill. 3) Installer / Consultant details.
