Residents 65 and older: You are not required to buy a Saltwater Fishing License, but you are required to register annually with the Fisherman Identification Program (FIP) by visiting .mrc.virginia.gov/FIP.

Who We Are. The Game and Inland Fisheries provides persons with disabilities a special Lifetime Hunting and Fresh Water Fishing license for $15.00 each; Saltwater fishing for $10.00; Trapping for $15.00.

Everyone is required to have a license to fish in Virginia and must have an electronic or printed copy of the license with them while fishing. Licenses can be purchased online at Go Outdoors Virginia or purchased in person at some of the Circuit Courts, license agents, and DWR headquarters.

Resident or nonresident landowners, their spouses, their children and grandchildren and the spouses of such children and grandchildren, or the landowner's parents, resident or nonresident, do not need a license to hunt, trap, or fish within the boundaries of their own lands and inland waters.

Special Lifetime hunting and fishing licenses §29.1-302.1 C. Any resident who is permanently disabled, as defined in § 58.1-3217, who applies for either of the resident lifetime licenses authorized by this section shall receive such a license for a fee.
