Xeroform is biocompatible, reduces infection, and enhances healing of burn wounds by preventing desiccation and mechanical trauma. Handmade petrolatum gauze may be a low-cost replacement for Xeroform.

Impregnated wound dressings are gauzes and non-woven sponges, ropes, or strips saturated with a solution, an emulsion, oil, or some other agent or compound. These agents most commonly include saline, oil, zinc salts, petrolatum, 3% bismuth tribromophenate, or scarlet red. Indications vary based on the compound.

Cuticerin is an impregnated dressing made of a smooth acetate fabric, with a defined mesh size, coated with a water repellent ointment containing petrolatum, paraffin and Eucerite. Cuticerin is a low adherent wound contact layer.

Paraffin Gauze Dressings are ideal for minor burns and wounds with superficial skin loss. It soothes and protects the wound to allow drainage onto a secondary absorbent dressing.

Petroleum Gauze Dressing is a non-adherent primary dressing that maintains a moist wound bed for healing. Petroleum-impregnated cotton gauze forms a smooth and conforming dressing.
