You need a building permit to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, remove or demolish any building, structure, or any part thereof, or any equipment, device or facility therein or thereon and if the work entails changes in the use or occupancy of a building.

If the permit has expired you may apply for a One-Time Permit Renewal if it is within 90 days from permit expiration. One-time Permit Renewals are issued over the counter at the Building Administration Office. Upon approval, your permit will be renewed another 180 days.

Under California's Building Code, you must obtain a permit before building a fence that will be over 6 feet tall unless the top 2 feet of the fence will be barbed wire. For a front yard fence, the maximum height is 42 inches. For a backyard fence, the maximum height is 72 inches.

Once a permit is issued, it remains valid as long as work begins within 180 days from the date issued and continues in a substantial manner until completion of the job (per FBC 105.3. 2.1).

You can apply for a building permit by submitting the Building Permit Application (located on the forms & application page) along with the required pdf documents to the Building Division via email at ePermits@hollywoodfl.org. 3.

A building permit is required for the construction of any new fence over three (3) feet (6) six inches regardless of the type of construction*. The Hollywoodland Specific Plan requires that no fences be constructed within the first three feet of the front yard property line.
