If you have failed a course, you may be able to take a credit recovery course at your high school. Credit Recovery courses are high school courses offered by CCSF's Transitional Studies Department. These courses can be taken by any high school student. Students can use these courses to make up a course they missed, retake a course to improve a grade, or earn credit for a course they failed.

In addition to being offered at a faster pace, credit recovery courses are also designed to help students improve their scores from previous courses. For example, if you scored lowly or failed a course in the past, you can retake it again to improve your grade-point average.

Students taking courses for credit recovery use the same rigorous, standards-based courses as students engaged in courses for original credit, ensuring that all students are mastering the skills and concepts necessary for their future success.

Credit recovery is the foundation that keeps the financial and banking system, as well as the business sector, active. The growing complexity and regulation of the financial and banking systems, national and international, has imposed a different awareness of credit institutions and consumers.

Student grades in credit recovery courses are designed to be GPA-neutral, meaning that the student's GPA will not be affected by the student's grade in the course. The failing grade in the initial credit course will remain on the student's transcript but will be marked to not count in the GPA.

It doesn't look at good as passing the class in the first place, but it does say you cared enough to keep trying. For most of the nearly 3,000 four year colleges and universities in the United States, that will be enough. It will raise eyebrows at elite colleges but if you match yourself well, it won't be an issue.

Take more courses, and make sure you pass them all. Credits are earned by taking and passing courses. That part is simple. Each credit is usually set to represent about 120 hours of class time over a semester or full year, but schools have a lot of flexibility in the actual amount of seat time required.

This means enrolling in an accredited program in which you study the material outside of regular school hours - whether after school, during the summer or on the weekends - to gain the course credit you didn't obtain originally.
