Walk-in clinics may also be called “rapid access clinics” or “medical clinics.” Anyone who has a health card can see a doctor at a walk-in clinic. If you don't have a health card, you can still see a doctor, but you'll be required to pay a fee.

Walk-in Medical Clinic Some clinics are open in the evening and on weekends. You need to take your health (OHIP) card with you. You may not be able to see the same doctor every time you go to a clinic. You may also have to wait to see a doctor or nurse, if there are a lot of other patients ahead of you.

If treatment for your health condition is not medically necessary right now but you still need to see a doctor, you can call your local Community Health Centre (CHCs). CHCs will serve people even if they don't have status in Canada. Most CHCs serve specific areas in Ontario.

Doctors and nurse practitioners at walk-in clinics and UPCCs are for people who have a medical problem, but not an emergency. Call Healthlink BC at 8-1-1 to find a walk-in clinic or UPCC near you. Some clinics are open until late. Many are open 7 days a week.

Depending on your immigration status, the government of Canada provides free emergency medical services, even if you don't have a government health card. If you have an emergency, it is recommended to visit the nearest hospital. A walk-in clinic may charge fees if you're not a resident of that province or territory.

If you have private health insurance, you can show the doctor's office the card or document from that insurance company. If you do not have OHIP or private health insurance, the doctor may ask you to pay for medical services. You may be able to get free medical help from a Community Health Centre (CHC).

Privately owned by the biggest private healthcare company in NZ, Tāmaki Health, White Cross is often utilised as a last port of call for parents who can't get in with their GP, especially when their child has a condition that won't go away on its own.
