What is the message of "The Wave"? The message of the novel is to actively question before following a theory or person blindly. Students eventually realized how easily they were manipulated, and also how easily charismatic leaders can manipulate citizens on a larger scale.

Christy Ross Ben Ross's wife and Gordon High's music and choir teacher.

Christy doesn't agree: she says that the most important thing is to stop The Wave before something really bad happens. Ben holds his ground, though: "I have to push them until they get the point. I might be teaching these kids the most important lesson of their lives!" (15.16). Christy still doesn't see things his way.

Ben Ross: High school history teacher who tends to get engrossed in his work "to the point where he tended to forget that the rest of the world existed".

He had never been able to figure out why he was so inept in that way, and so when it came to anything mechanical, he left it to Christy, his wife. She taught music and choir at Gordon High, and at home she was in charge of anything that required manual dexterity.

The plot revolves around a history teacher Mr. Ben Ross, his high school students, and an experiment he conducts in an attempt to teach them what it may have been like living in Third Reich Germany. Unsatisfied with his own inability to answer his students' earnest questions of how and why, Mr.

Rainer is inspired with The Wave as a creative means of teaching his disinterested class about autocracy and authoritarianism without dry recitations about Nazism. Instead of telling the students about how people could embrace fascism, he will let them understand its seductive power through experience.

The Wave is based on a true incident that occured in a high school history class in Palo Alto, California, in 1969. The powerful forces of group pressure that pervaded many historic movements such as Nazism are recreated in the classroom when history teacher Burt Ross introduces a "new" system to his students.
