There are two main materials used in pit and fissure sealants, resin-based and glass ionomer sealants....The rest of the equipment typically includes: Air/water syringe. Mouth mirror. Explorer. Excavator tip. Two by two gauze squares. Cotton rolls. Cotton pellets. Forceps/cotton pliers.

Owing to its hydrophilic properties, GIC is not as moisture-sensitive as hydrophobic resin. In contrast to resin, GIC based fissure sealants show a lower retention to pits and fissures. However, although the GIC sealants appear clinically as “partially” or “totally” lost, small amounts of material remain.

The conclusions are that sealing pit and fissures of primary and permanent teeth is an effective method for preventing and arresting caries.

Dental pits and fissure sealants (sealant) are among the most commonly used materials to prevent tooth decay in children and adolescents [1,2,3,4]. However, sealants consist mainly of bis-GMA, bis-EMA, and bis-EMA monomers containing bisphenol A (BPA, CAS number: 80-05-7) [5,6].

Fourth generation RBS The fourth generation is the fluoride-releasing resin- based sealants (FRBS). Fluoride ions are added to inhibit caries, however, FRSB could not provide fluoride release for a long period of time, so there is no additional benefit to LRBS [8,9].

After 3 years, 91.7% and 100.0% of all molars were free of non-cavitated carious lesions or carious cavities, respectively. It can be concluded that the new fissure sealing material can be considered as at least equivalent in terms of survival and retention behavior compared to the predecessor material.

A major difference between marketed sealants is their method of polymerization. First-generation sealants were initiated by ultraviolet light, second-generation sealants are autopolymerized, and third-generation sealants use visible light.
