The three phases of TCCC include Care Under Fire, Tactical Field Care and Tactical Evacuation Care. TCCC has been shown to be very effective in saving lives on the battlefield.

TCCC training has four levels of qualification: All Service Members (Tier 1), Combat Lifesaver (Tier 2), Combat Medic (Tier 3) and Combat Paramedic (Tier 4).

If the casualty is responsive and able, the first responder/CLS should direct the casualty to return fire, apply self-aid (tourniquet), re-engage, and move to cover (if possible).

PERFORM THE ARMS CARRY Slide one of your arms under the casualty's arm, behind his back, and under his other arm. Move to the casualty's side, bend down, and place your other arm behind the casualty's knees. Lift the casualty from the ground and stand erect. Carry the casualty high on your chest to lessen fatigue.

Performance Steps Note: Tactical combat casualty care (TCCC) can be divided into three phases. The first is care under fire; the second is tactical field care; the third is combat casualty evacuation care. In the first, you are under hostile fire and are very limited as to the care you can provide.
