On the other hand, you can camp without a permit, but if authorities catch you, you may be asked to leave and/or pay a fine. One great place to camp is the Malaekahana Bay State Recreation Center. This campsite has a mile-long beach, with plenty of space to make your camp along the golden sand.

Permits cost $32 for a 3-day site and $52 for a 5-day site. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and are limited to one permit per weekend. A camping permit allows for a maximum of ten (10) people, two (2) tents and three (3) vehicles.

A valid camping permit is required to camp in all city campgrounds. Camping without a valid permit can incur penalties up to $500.00 and up to 30 days in prison. No camping is allowed on either Wednesday or Thursday.

At camping.honolulu.gov you can reserve a campsite up to two (2) weeks in advance. Note: Only one camping permit per customer per camping week. Campsites are made available every Friday at 5:00 p.m. (Hawaii Standard Time) including Holidays.

Adult (18 +) $5. Junior (13 to 17) $2. Children (12 and under) $1. Non-Residents (All ages) $20.
