What Is a Construction Risk Assessment? A construction risk assessment aims to identify dangerous factors in construction projects. Before discussing how and when a risk assessment is performed, it helps to define what a risk is. A risk is a chance that a hazard will cause someone injury, illness, harm or other damage.

Kerb units should be placed onto the concrete bed and tapped down to line and level using string lines to ensure the correct positioning is achieved. See images 2 & 3. Kerbs and edgings can be laid close jointed with 2 - 4mm joints without the use of mortar or with wider 5 - 10mm joints pointed with mortar.

The risks involved with kerb laying work come from hazards including adjacent traffic routes, the use of hand tools and cutting equipment, debris and projectiles, manual handling, weather, noise, vibration and dust.

The injuries usually arise from ongoing repetition of the work and posture during the lifting. These factors can create excessive stresses and strains on the body, which can cause damage to muscles and tendons – particularly to the back.

Kerb casting will be laid on firm foundation of minimum 150 mm thickness of cement concrete of M10 grade cast-in-situ and extending 50mm beyond the kerb stone or over WMM surface as per site condition. Before laying the foundation with lean concrete, the base will be leveled and lightly watered to make it damp.
